Going back in the memory of our family, we remembered a land already cultivated by our elders, and that a few of us even worked on it in the summer when we were small, to help them.
Telena is that land. It lies in Extremadura (Spain), and it is a pretty estate (the “finca”) crossed by a stream of the same name. It runs right up to the River Guadiana, the natural frontier with Portugal.
We are not the only ones to have cultivated this land. The Romans were already planting olives, fruit and vegetables and cereals on this fertile meadow of the Guadiana, and always trading their products over the border. At one time, the agricultural activity was so intensive, the estate came to hold a village with a population of up to 600, in the year 1631.
Telena is the essence of what we would like to present today:
Over the centuries, at Finca Telena we have learned to work with the best fruit and vegetables of the Mediterranean diet. Nowadays, we wish to maintain that spirit of the old-time farmers of Extremadura by offering a selection of organic products for those people who appreciate the essence of things, what is natural, healthy and health-giving, and with the taste our forefathers would have known.
So, in addition to the motivation of an exciting project, we have realised that at Telena, we share an interest in preserving and making known the gastronomical treasures of a region which were created by the work of our ancestors and by all of the cultures that have left a little of their wisdom in Extremadura. We call this the “Telena Spirit”, and our commitment is to maintaining it.
